A very appropriate quote for today's topic of Time Management and how to be a successful student! Academic success involves more than attending class and reading textbooks.  You need to be organized, "study smart", and know how to get the most out of your classes.

All of us, no matter how famous we are, no matter how rich or poor, all get 168 hours to spend each week-no more-no less.  Time is an unusual commodity.  It cannot be saved.  You can't stockpile time.  Time is a non-renewable resource. When you run out of time that is it.

In college, no one will contact you when you miss class and no one will remind you when assignments are due. You are responsible for managing your own time, workload, and class load.

Successful students have two things in common:

  • They are organized
  • They manage their time effectively

Pause momentarily and reflect on how you can streamline and combine tasks. For example, study while doing your laundry!

Master students stay on top of things:

  • keep current in classes
  • know assignment deadlines
  • divide each task into small manageable tasks

The key elements are to do it now; focus on a goal, use your class time well, and start projects as soon as they are assigned!

To help you stay organized, buy a planner and USE it! If that is not your preferred method, there are so many tools out there to keep you on track but you must use them to be successful. Using the calendar on your phone or computer is fine. But don't rely on your memory so you need to write things down.  Learn to say "no" which sometimes is the hardest thing to do! In college, there is so much to do and you are pulled in so many directions. It is easy to get distracted.  Prioritize what is most important for you and don't let anything get in the way of your academic success.

People are satisfied when they spend their time engaged in activities that are most important to them and achieve their goals.

Employers value employees who can manage projects and perform their work efficiently. Aligned with these long-term objectives.
