Description

This lab will focus on treatment procedures specific to the various dental specialty practices. Specialty areas covered are endodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and pediatric dentistry. Topics will include treatment indications, instrumentation and the selection dental materials needed for treatment, patient education, pre-operative and post- operative instruction, and the role and responsibility of the dental assistant in each specialty practice. Laboratory practice will focus on practice of competency skills including expanded functions that support and deliver patient treatment. Students will learn how to take an electric pulp vitality test, prepare, and place a periodontal dressing, place and removing sutures, prepare for a sterile field for instruments and supplies, perform coronal polishing and place a dental sealant. Corequisite: DEN 150
