I graduated from USD with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in 2009.  I have worked clinically as a dental hygienist since 2009.  

I started at Southeast Technical College as an adjunct Dental Assisting Instructor in 2020 and moved to a full time instructor in 2023.

Monday: Open Lab from 7:30am to 8:00am.

Tuesday: Open Lab from 7:30am to 8:00am.

Description

This lab will focus on treatment procedures specific to the various dental specialty practices. Specialty areas covered are endodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and pediatric dentistry. Topics will include treatment indications, instrumentation and the selection dental materials needed for treatment, patient education, pre-operative and post- operative instruction, and the role and responsibility of the dental assistant in each specialty practice. Laboratory practice will focus on practice of competency skills including expanded functions that support and deliver patient treatment. Students will learn how to take an electric pulp vitality test, prepare, and place a periodontal dressing, place and removing sutures, prepare for a sterile field for instruments and supplies, perform coronal polishing and place a dental sealant. Prerequisite: DEN 115, DEN 115L Corequisite: DEN 135
