Description

In this course, students will learn the properties and characteristics of Color and Spectral Doppler as it pertains to the Echocardiographic Examination. Students will explore the hemodynamics of blood throughout the valves and begin describing how valvular pathologies will affect blood flow, heart chamber size, the heart muscle, and systolic and diastolic function. Students will learn the differences between valvular stenosis and regurgitation in each of the four heart valves and how a Cardiac Sonographer would adjust their examination to evaluate these pathologies. The students will learn about the Right Heart and how Pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary emboli will affect the appearance of the Right Heart during an Echocardiogram. Prerequisite: HC 117, HC 118, HC 118L , MATH 103 or MATH 114, CNA certificate or HC 106, PHYS 100, CV 123, CVS 103, CVS 103L, CVS 113, CVS 113L, HC 103
