STI Instructor Bio:

Catherine J. Miller, BS, LPN, RVT, Director of the Vascular Ultrasound program, has 35+ years of professional experience that includes medical-surgical nursing, vascular ultrasound sonographer and post secondary education. She has earned her Baccalaurette in Health Care Management from Belluvue University in Omaha, NE, Licensed Practical Nursing from Worthington, MN, and Registered Vascular Technologist from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). She has taught at the post-secondary level and holds a post-secondary credential from the South Dakota Board of Education. As an educator, Catherine has taught health core courses such as Patient Care, Introduction to Cardiovascular and all coursed pertaining to Vascular Ultrasound. Catherine is involved with (CAAHEP JRC-CVT) Joint Review Committee of Cardiovascular Technology Technology as a site reader and visitor of fellow Vascular Ultrasound Programs throughout the United States.

Description

This course is a full-time clinical internship (40 hours/week) and will be completed at an affiliated local or out-of-town hospital or clinic. Students will broaden and perfect their vascular sonography skills. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking skills as related to exam performance and patient care settings. The student will also complete coursework and portfolios during the clinical internship. As part of this course, students will be required to return to the Southeast Tech campus during the week of spring graduation. Students will participate in review of program course content, clinical findings and expectations, and registry preparation testing and activities. Students will present current clinical case studies and share clinical experience summaries. Prerequisite: All CV, HC, CVP, General Courses and permission of the Program Chair
