Lynn Heath is the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) clinical coordinator and instructor.  She has extensive experience working in healthcare with over 20+ years in the industry. Lynn is a graduate of the University of Mary/St. Alexius School of Radiology Technology and the Mayo School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.  She is an ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist and an ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Vascular Technologist. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology and is working on a post-secondary instructor credential from the South Dakota Department of Education.

In her early career, Lynn worked in Grand Forks and Fargo, ND, and has now spent the last 17 years as a sonographer at Sanford Women’s – Maternal Fetal Medicine.  She has been preceptor for DMS students in the past and more recently, has been teaching high school health careers courses.  

Lynn joined the Southeast Technical team in April, 2020 and hopes to share her love for ultrasound to future students, while providing guidance, encouragement and passion in becoming a confident, professional sonographer.

Description

Students will be introduced to the principles of ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Emphasis will be placed on parameters of sound waves, interaction of sound and media, transducers, artifacts, safety, and quality assurance. Students will also become familiar with metric units, sound beams, types of resolution, display modes and scan converters. Prerequisite: PHYS 100
