Description

ST 124 Clinical II is the culminating clinical experience in the Surgical Technology program. Students are assigned to clinical sites across the Midwest region and are expected to function at the level of an entry-level surgical technologist. This full-time clinical rotation consists of 36รป40 hours per week, for a total of 360 hours of immersive, hands-on practice in the operating room. During this rotation, students refine their skills in aseptic technique, procedural sequencing, and surgical case management. Students gain experience in a variety of specialties including general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, OB/GYN, plastics, and urology. Emphasis is placed on professional conduct, communication, critical thinking, and the demonstration of clinical independence. Specialty units in Oral Maxillofacial, Ophthalmic, Otorhinolaryngology, Plastics & Reconstructive, and Genitourinary surgery will be completed through structured self-study modules. Students must complete a minimum of 120 surgical cases to meet ARC/STSA and CAAHEP accreditation standards. At the conclusion of the 10-week rotation, students will sit for the National Certification Exam for Surgical Technologists (NBSTSA) on Southeast Technical College's campus.
