Description

ST 123 Surgical Pharmacology provides students with a foundational understanding of pharmacologic principles as they relate to the surgical environment. Emphasis is placed on the safe handling, identification, and transfer of medications and solutions; dosage calculation; and the role of the surgical technologist in relation to anesthesia administration and emergency preparedness. Students will study common medications used perioperatively, anesthetic agents and techniques, monitoring equipment, and potential complications. This course prepares students to work collaboratively with the surgical team in ensuring patient safety during all phases of anesthesia and surgical care. Prerequisite: All 1st, 2nd, 3rd ST/HC semester courses Corequisite: MICR 231, ST 114S, ST 212
