Description

The Practicum is the capstone course for the program. It builds on and combines all knowledge and skills from prior courses concentrating on the health and illness of individuals and families across the lifespan. Skills development and increased self confidence in the Associate Degree nursing role are emphasized by working in collaboration with a preceptor and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. The nursing process, evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives are applied within a realistic work setting. The concepts of accountability, nursing team management, delegation, supervision and teaching, both client and nursing personnel, are integrated throughout the learning experience. Regulatory, legal and ethical issues are explored during the lecture component of the course. Prerequisite: NURS 230, NURS 230S, NURS 231
