Description

This course is designed to teach the algebraic and trigonometric skills necessary for science, technology, pre-engineering and mathematics. This course begins with a brief review of the fundamental concepts of the real number system, algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities. It continues with graphs of linear, quadratic, and polynomial functions; one to one functions and their inverses; and complex numbers. Exponential and logarithmic functions, graphs and equations are included. Then the trigonometric functions and graphs, inverse functions, trigonometry of right triangles, and the laws of sines and of cosines are introduced. The trigonometric identities, polar coordinates, and vectors are included. The course concludes with the study of systems of equation and inequalities, and analytic geometry. Throughout the course there is extensive use of the graphing calculator. Credit will not be allowed for Math 116 in addition to credit in Math 114T or 120. Prerequisite: MATH 101
