Occupation:

Rod Breitling is a Land Survey Science instructor.  He began teaching at STI in 1986.

Rod has a master’s degree in Career Technical Education with an emphasis in land surveying from South Dakota State University and is a Professional Land Surveyor in the state of South Dakota.

Along with his years of surveying experience in the industry, he is a former Co-Owner of Dakota Land Surveying Inc., Past President of the South Dakota Society of Professional Land Surveyors, Owner of RB Land Surveying LLC and has received the Outstanding Contribution to the South Dakota Land Surveying Profession.

“I believe in stressing the fundamentals. This gives the student a strong foundation and a platform to build new knowledge upon. My style is more of a student/coaching approach by providing an atmosphere of learning with everyday real world industry conditions and situations.

Description

In this course, the student study "the SD Guidelines for Professional Practice", building and zoning codes, study/review subdivision ordinances and draw a minor subdivision plat. The students will study, analyze and review the plat approval processes necessary for recordation. The student will read, write and understand methods of land descriptions and research public records relevant to properties and boundaries. The students will analyze and study the elements to produce and complete certified land corner records, elevation certificates, and ALTA-ASCM drawings. The students will perform one or more of the following field surveys: retracement survey, land title mortgage survey, certificate of survey, elevation certificate, a certified land corner record, ALTA survey, Sioux Falls Monument Recovery, along with the drawings and or certificates required. Prerequisite: CET 226 Corequisite: LSS 220
